Clash In The Clayton 8

What a show in the Clayton Hotel on Saturday night.
Delighted with our new World Champion Whitney Sheppard who worked so hard and came up trumps after an all out war with Evelyn Gallegos from Frankfurt who gave it everything from start to finish.
Evelyn and coach Gabriel were a pleasure to deal with and we wish them all the best in future ventures.
Our two new Irish Champs Alex Fitzpatrick & Corey O Malley who picked up the Low Kick 69.5kg & Full Contact 60kg Titles respectively after two five round battles.
Sean Ryan was unlucky in his quest for the low kick Lightweight Title but gave a good account of himself and certainly has a lot more to offer.
Shane Lawless from Athlone took the Lightweight K-1 Belt last night also.
Amy Duane had a tough battle with a more experienced Kilkenny girl who got the nod but Amy learned a lot from the fight.
Colm Dunphy had a great win in his first K-1 Rules contest after three hard rounds, Tyrone Cronin O Brien had a good but close win over Chris Breen and our four Juniors who opened up the show really did us proud with Darren Van Strien putting in a great performance as did Sofia Huish, Faith Foley and Finn Foley.
These kids are the future superstars of Kickboxing in Galway and certainly ones to watch out for.
Cian Mc Cormack gave what can only be described as a K-1 masterclass in his career best fight against a teak tough French fighter Marvin Bonnemains, who only returned from a month long training camp in Thailand a few days previous  in preparation for the fight.
Once again, the French team Marvin & Coach Frederick were a pleasure to deal with.
All fighters on the card put up a great show win, lose or draw and all fighters were very respectful to each other and officials etc.
In this age where trash talk is creeping in with some fighters trying to be  (not very successfully I might add 🤣) the bad boys and posting immature rubbish on line, it’s great to see the sporting aspect and martial arts respect is still very much alive.
Huge thanks to The fight fans who were amazing last night also and the officials, Bobby Nolan, Patrick Ryan, Joe Wilson, Stefan Moriarty, Clodagh Foley, Joe Mc Cormack and Jennifer Baranyai who did a first class job.
To DJ Pa Murphy, MC Alan Mc Nevin, Dr Maura Grummell, Oranmore Civil Defence and the fabulous management & staff of the Clayton Hotel
Big Thanks also to John Mulligan from Galway Bay FM for all the prefight interviews & coverage and commentary at the show.
I really can’t say enough about our fantastic set up crew who gave up their time in getting the Clayton ready and then doing corners, warming up fighters and keeping them calm, policing the venue and then staying back to dismantle and put away the ring, lights, all equipment etc.
These guys are the unsung hero’s  and without them, these World class events would not be possible so a huge thanks to Shane Creaven,  Gabriel Finn, Robert Blake, Liam Connolly, Oisin Concannon, Ultan Connell, Pat Ryan, Tom Scarry, Paul Huish and Jamie O Sullivan, Eoin Mulvihill and anyone else who helped out on the night.
Another huge thanks to our lovely ladies on the door Leona Mc Cormack, Sinead Fitzpatrick & Natalie Keating who greeted everyone with a lovely smile as they came in.
To Our glove runners who did a first class job Amy Woods & Rachel Murray – they kept everything perfectly on track and were on the ball throughout.
To all our great sponsors: ZinCuFlex, Q-Fit, Galway Trade Windows, Safety Direct, Keogh’s Bar, Seamus Quirke Road Post Office, Neale Park Construction, Brazil’s Restaurant in Tipperary and Da Roberta’s Pizzeria in Salthill.
To our spot prize sponsors: Steve’s Cycles & Lawnmowers, Seamus Quirke Road Post Office,Austom Cylinders, Monaghan’s Centra, Ballindooley Stores, Lakeside School Of Fitness and the great team of ticket sellers who did a fantastic job.
